The electricity industry has accumulated losses of 185 trillion tomans.
A senior official from the Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (Tavanir) says that the company has more than 185 trillion tomans in accumulated losses and 200 trillion tomans in accumulated debts.
Masoud Khani, the project manager for Tavanir’s consumption optimization plans, said on Wednesday, January 30, that both Tavanir and the electricity industry have been loss-making over the past three years, and the company’s debt to power plants has been increasing.
He stated that due to the accumulated losses and debts, Tavanir no longer has the ability to invest in constructing new power plants.
His remarks appear to be a response to last week’s comments by Hassan Ali Taghizadeh Lendeh, the chairman of the board of directors of the Power Producers Syndicate, who said that over the past three years, Tavanir’s revenue has tripled due to increased electricity tariffs, but according to him, not a single rial of the increased revenue has been used for the development and construction of new power plants.
Mr. Taghizadeh also harshly criticized Tavanir in August this year, saying that the company has turned to electricity brokerage.
