The presence of the Russian Minister of Sports and two Russian sports teams in Iran
In an unprecedented event that is considered Russia’s attempt to break out of isolation, the Russian Minister of Sports, the national wrestling team, and the best football team of the country simultaneously visited Iran.
These trips to Iran took place at a time when the Islamic Republic is also facing serious warnings from the International Olympic Committee in the field of sports, which could lead to Russia’s fate being isolated.
After these trips, Zenit St. Petersburg, the champion of the last four seasons of Russian football, lost 2-0 to Sepahan Isfahan in a friendly match held at the Naghsh-e Jahan Stadium in front of 35,000 spectators.
In this match, some Russian men and women were present at the stadium with the flag of their country, and it was interesting to note the waving of the Ukrainian flag by some Sepahan fans as a provocation.
