The unanswered mystery of serial poisonings among students

According to Iran Gate, on the first day of Esfand and after about three months since the start of serial poisonings among female students in Qom schools, the Attorney General of the country announced that these poisonings are likely intentional.

Mohammad Jafar Montazeri wrote in a letter to Hassan Gharib, the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Qom, that reliable news from a concerning source indicates the possibility of deliberate criminal actions related to poisonings in some educational centers in Qom, which requires attention and thorough investigation.

Despite this, the order to transfer students to hospitals by the Attorney General continues, and this issue has also spread from Qom to other cities. Suspicious serial poisonings in Iranian schools are still ongoing, and in the latest case, the head of the pre-hospital emergency center in Lorestan reported poisoning of 52 other students at the Ahmadiyeh School in Borujerd.

Mehdi Ghaybi stated that so far 52 other students from Ahmadieh Girls’ High School in Borujerd have been poisoned. This official has stated that the number of poisoned students is increasing every moment. According to Ghaybi, yesterday, on the second of Esfand, 21 students of this school were also poisoned. Considering that the poisoning of students started widely from Qom city, Qom University of Medical Sciences announced after a while that today no student has been poisoned and sent to the hospital, expressing hope that this trend will continue in the coming days.

Currently, in Qom, among the poisoned people of the past days, 6 students are hospitalized, whose general condition is suitable and they will be discharged after complete recovery. Qom University of Medical Sciences also announced on Tuesday, the first of Esfand, that 25 students from 5 schools in Qom went to treatment centers due to poisoning, where 18 people were discharged in the early hours and 7 students are under observation in the hospital, and their general condition is good.

On Monday, 30th of Bahman, Qom University of Medical Sciences announced that 11 students with symptoms of poisoning, including respiratory symptoms, throat irritation, and nausea, were transferred to medical centers. In response to this report, the Minister of Health appointed a special deputy to oversee this issue at the national level, but no effective action has been reported yet. Provincial authorities say they do not know the cause of the problem, but despite repeated cases of poisoning from inhaling an unknown toxic gas since Azar month, they have refrained from closing schools. The mysterious poisoning of ninth-grade students at Noor Girls’ High School in Yazdanshahr was the first incident and has been repeated several times since then.

From school to the pulpit of Friday prayers

Mohammad Saeedi, the Friday prayer leader of Qom, accused foreign media of spreading rumors about the events in Qom during the Friday prayer on the 28th of Bahman. He said that families should not pay attention to baseless rumors regarding the poisoning of students.

However, on the first of Esfand month, the incident of poisoning students in Qom, which had been repeatedly denied and downplayed by the authorities of the Ministry of Health and Education, entered a new phase, and the Attorney General of the country announced the possibility of it being intentional.

In a news article published by Iranian media, quoting the University of Medical Sciences, the names of these schools and the exact reason for the transfer of students were not mentioned. According to a statement from the University of Medical Sciences in Qom, these students are currently under observation in the hospital.

Strange statements by the representative of Qom

The representative of the people of Qom in the parliament said that the cause of this incident is still unknown and nothing has been confirmed. Security and health officials are investigating. Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani added that since personal opinions cannot be expressed about this issue due to lack of information, I also have no opinion. However, what can be seen in this case is that it has been exaggerated.

Amirabadi Farahani added that yesterday they transferred 28 students to the hospital, of which only 8 said they had trembling hands and were in a state of stress. Some also had underlying illnesses.

The representative of the parliament continued, we can analyze this issue with an example, for instance, in a group of 8 to 10 people, if they say that we are suffocating, it also makes people who have respiratory conditions feel breathless and say that we are suffocating. Based on this, we can call this issue a phobia. Amirabadi Farahani emphasized that this issue is being investigated, but the exact cause is still unknown.

Security forces’ involvement in the case

The government spokesperson stated that the Minister of Information presented an initial report on the preliminary investigations into the incidents that occurred in girls’ schools in Qom. Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Information of Qom province will also collaborate with the Minister of Health during his visit to Qom today.

He added that considering the discussions about the incidents that had previously been presented in some girls’ schools in Qom and the mission given to the Ministry of Information in this regard, the Minister of Information provided a report on the preliminary investigations in this field. However, there were various hypotheses that existed in the medical field, and the investigation relied particularly on the medical capacity of Qom province and their cooperation.

The government spokesperson reminded that the Minister of Health also went to Qom today in a field visit as the representative of the government to better investigate the issue. Fortunately, no student remains hospitalized.

Bahadari Jahromi continued, representatives from the Ministry of Intelligence and Education will also collaborate with the Minister of Health on this trip. It is certain that the blind knot of these serial poisonings is becoming even more blind, and despite the passage of time, not only has no clue about the cause of these incidents been found, but the circle of events is expanding.
