UN assistance to Afghanistan and 18 other vulnerable countries
The United Nations is providing $250 million in aid to 19 drought-stricken and vulnerable countries. This assistance will be delivered through the Central Emergency Response Fund.
According to the coordinating body for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan, 74% of households do not have proper shelter, and an immediate budget of $30 million is needed to help them.
The agency has stated that approximately 56% of Afghan families are living in semi-damaged shelters, and 18% are living in ruins.
With the fall of the previous government in Afghanistan, international aid and relief efforts have significantly declined, and natural disasters have worsened the crisis in the past year.
Relief agencies have reported that recent earthquakes in Badakhshan, Farah, Badghis, and Jowzjan provinces have displaced dozens of families.
