Due to the winter cold, hundreds of children have died in Afghanistan, according to UNICEF.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that this year’s cold winter in Afghanistan, along with other problems, has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of children.
According to the organization, the month of January this year has seen the highest number of child casualties in Afghanistan due to cold weather and seasonal illnesses.
UNICEF has stated that despite providing humanitarian assistance to some hospitals, it has prevented further child fatalities in Afghanistan.
The organization has also expressed appreciation for the presence of women in the healthcare sector and emphasized that without the presence of female staff in the health sector in various clinics throughout Afghanistan, the condition of patients, especially children, would have been worse.
Last week, Omar Abid, the Deputy Director of the UN Children’s Fund, warned that 28 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian assistance, and 6 million Afghans are facing hunger and famine.
