US Sanctions Iran's Attorney General and Several IRGC and Basij Commanders

The United States sanctioned Iran’s Attorney General and several IRGC and Basij commanders.

The U.S. government announced on Wednesday that it has imposed sanctions against Iran’s Attorney General and key military officials in connection with the suppression of protests in Iran.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury stated in a release that sanctions have been imposed on Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the Attorney General, due to issuing an order in September for imposing severe punishments on detainees.

Other sanctioned individuals include Moslem Moein, head of the Cyberspace Headquarters, Hassan Hassanzadeh, IRGC commander in Tehran, Sadegh Hosseini, IRGC commander of Beit al-Moqaddas in Kurdistan Province, and Hossein Maroufi, deputy coordinator of the Basij.

Additionally, the company Imen Sanat Zaman Fara was sanctioned for manufacturing equipment for Iranian law enforcement, including armored vehicles for dispersing gatherings.
