Hannah Neumann: We must not allow the Iranian regime to escape punishment

Hannah Neumann, a representative of Germany in the European Parliament, emphasized in response to the conditional amnesty announcement by the judiciary and the consent of the Iranian President to these conditions that although she is happy for all the prisoners who will be released, we must not allow the Iranian regime to use its propaganda about forced amnesty.

She wrote in a tweet on Monday that the amnesty order essentially applies to those who have committed a crime, while most of the individuals targeted by the Iranian government are simply imprisoned for protesting.

Ms. Neumann also warned that caution should be exercised regarding the announcement of amnesty for prisoners in Iran, adding that there is even a danger that the regime may carry out more executions through this process.

She reminded that protesters must request forgiveness before receiving amnesty, which is considered equivalent to forced confession.
