White Balloons with a Black Mission

The United States proves that Chinese balloons are spying

According to a report from Iran Gate, American experts and defense officials announced that they found sensors and surveillance technology for tracking and collecting information in the downed balloon, and the FBI will analyze its remains.

They also reported the presence of multiple active sensors for data collection, supported by abundant solar panels to power them, as well as antennas capable of recording and locating communications. All of these were found in a large 60-meter balloon, equipped with technology equivalent to a regional jet aircraft with less than a hundred seats.

The Biden administration declassified information obtained from its spy aircraft, which had been closely tracking the Chinese balloon for days before its destruction in the American sky, in order to demonstrate to the American people and the world that this balloon was a serious espionage threat.

Spying technology

Washington authorities are still collecting and analyzing the remnants of the Chinese balloon that crashed over the waters of South Carolina, after passing through Montana where the American nuclear silos are located. However, they announced that, thanks to the use of U2 surveillance aircraft to monitor it, they have concluded that the technology used in the balloon is clearly for espionage purposes and not in line with weather balloons and meteorological equipment, contrary to China’s claims since the balloon was first spotted in the US sky.

The secrets are still intact. One of the main objectives of the detailed analysis of the recovered remains of the downed balloon is to determine exactly what Beijing was pursuing and whether Chinese scientists have succeeded in acquiring advanced espionage technology from the United States or the West. American defense experts have stated that the Beijing balloons should be considered as an important part of China’s extensive electronic surveillance system.

Spy balloons and military platforms

One noteworthy point is that even balloons that are not classified as spy balloons and may seem harmless, such as weather conditions and wind currents, can be used for military purposes, for example, to improve missile accuracy.

Washington believes that Beijing is developing more powerful balloon teams using advanced materials and more precise guidance mechanisms in order to enhance its military capabilities. One of its goals, in addition to global surveillance of other countries, is to create and develop high-altitude platforms for bomb launches in the event of war, according to US assessments, at least 40 countries.

Near space domain

Beijing’s idea is to guarantee mastery of the so-called near space, which actually encompasses an altitude range of 12 to 62 miles from the Earth’s surface. China’s official military press defines this area as a strategic zone or a major battlefield in modern conflicts. Spy balloons certainly have special advantages over satellites, including the ability to maneuver, float in specific locations for extended periods, conduct precise inspections, and evade detection.

Allied Coalition Against Chinese Espionage

The Biden administration is currently examining and preparing new responses to a new challenge. Diplomatic efforts have begun, and the United States has summoned several allied and partner countries, warning them about China’s international espionage monitoring strategy. They have shown how dozens of balloons have flown over five continents, from North America to Europe and Asia. Wendy Sherman, the Deputy Secretary of State, stated during a congressional session that the espionage balloon story demonstrates how much the People’s Republic of China has become more oppressive within its borders and more aggressive outside of them.

New sanctions

Among the measures currently proposed by Washington are new sanctions against organizations and companies associated with China’s armed forces, industry, and defense sectors. These organizations played a role in the production of espionage balloons, which the United States defines as a military-nonmilitary fusion network.

The Biden administration is also preparing actions against advanced technologies in China, with laws to prevent American companies from investing in similar complex technologies, which is expected to begin in the next two months. However, Biden has previously imposed restrictions on the export of technologies considered vital.
