Yoram Cohen said Netanyahu had asked him to eavesdrop on the conversations of senior officials during a security meeting.
Yoram Cohen, the former head of Israel’s internal security service, known as Shin Bet, stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had requested him to listen in on the conversations of ministers and senior officers concerning an important security meeting.
The Jerusalem Post reported that these allegations relate to an event from 2018, which is said to involve Benny Gantz, who was then the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and a member of the Knesset.
Mr. Cohen explained that Netanyahu’s request to eavesdrop on officials was not seen as illegal surveillance but rather as using monitoring tools to oversee individuals with access to confidential information.
He also mentioned that conspiracy theories emerge when, according to him, a lack of public awareness combines with thought engineering. Cohen linked this to the events of October 7, 2023, emphasizing that people close to Netanyahu are actively shaping a narrative that entirely blames the military for the failure on that day.
