Public Transportation Strike in Germany

On Monday, 27th of March, a nationwide strike paralyzed Germany as employees of long-distance and local transportation, railways, buses, and airport staff participated in this 24-hour strike.

This nationwide strike was organized by the labor unions EVG and Verdi. Verdi has demanded a 105% increase in wages for approximately 25 million employees working in the public and local transportation sector, which would result in a minimum of 500 euros higher monthly wages. However, employers have only agreed to a 5% wage increase in two stages and a one-time payment of 2,500 euros.

The labor unions state that no progress has been made in negotiations between these unions and employers. They have threatened to begin a new round of strikes if no agreement is reached in the third round of negotiations, which starts today, Monday.
