Nasser Kanani’s reaction to the suspension of INSTEX

Nasser Kanani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has expressed his regret over the European announcement regarding the suspension of the INSTEX financial system. He stated that unfortunately, European governments have been unsuccessful in fulfilling their commitments to effectively operationalize INSTEX, alongside their inaction on other obligations under the JCPOA.

According to Kanani, these countries have not injected any long-term financial resources or credit lines into this channel throughout its entire operation.

He also added that Iran has never relied on INSTEX and has conducted its international trade through other international financial and banking channels.

Kanani’s remarks come as European countries have cited Iran’s lack of cooperation as the reason for the closure of INSTEX, claiming that Iran has hindered the achievement of INSTEX’s objectives for political reasons.

INSTEX was established after the United States withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal during Donald Trump’s presidency.
