Iran’s national futsal team advanced to the final match of the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship by winning in penalties against Uzbekistan.
The game ended in a 3-3 draw in regular time, with two of Iran’s three goals scored by the opponent’s players.
No goals were scored in extra time, leading the game to penalty shootouts.
In the first five penalties, each team made a mistake. Iran scored the sixth penalty, but Uzbekistan’s shot was saved by Iran’s goalkeeper.
In the previous 16 editions, Iran has won 12 championships, 2 runner-up titles, and 2 third-place finishes. Coach Vahid Shamsaei’s team is now aiming for their 13th championship title against the hosts.
In the first match of this stage hosted by Bangkok, Thailand, Iran overcame Tajikistan in penalties to reach the final. They had previously secured a spot in the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
