UAE to allocate $544 million to compensate for damages caused by last week's flood

The UAE will allocate $544 million to compensate for damages caused by last week’s floods.

The United Arab Emirates has announced that it will allocate $544 million to repair the homes of citizens who were affected by the heavy rains and floods last week.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and the Prime Minister of the UAE, said at the end of a cabinet meeting on Thursday, the fifth of Ordibehesht, that we have learned important lessons to deal with heavy rains. The Council of Ministers approved approximately $544 million for repairing the damages caused to people’s homes.

As a result of the heavy rains last week, which had no precedent in the past 75 years, extensive parts of Dubai’s streets and highways were flooded, and the operations of its airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, were disrupted for several days.

Although UAE authorities have not yet announced the exact number of casualties, reports indicate that at least three Filipino workers and one Emirati citizen lost their lives due to the severe floods last week.
