Deputy Minister of Security of the Interior Ministry: 1,700 billion tomans in damages over the past two months
Majid Mirahmadi, Deputy Minister of Security and Law Enforcement of the Interior Ministry, announced that in the protests over the past two months, a total of 1,700 billion tomans in damages have been inflicted on government buildings, facilities, public property, and people’s belongings.
He did not clarify how much of the damage was due to internet outages and the attacks by security and law enforcement forces on people’s vehicles and property, nor how it will be compensated.
In his interview with IRIB, he said that shops and stores have been looted or set on fire.
Earlier, the Iranian Interior Minister had stated that the majority of the damage was caused by rioters. The Iranian Interior Minister had previously announced that a fact-finding committee had been formed to investigate the protests and damages. Meanwhile, the United Nations Human Rights Council had earlier decided to establish an international fact-finding committee to address human rights violations. However, the Iranian government announced that they would not cooperate with this committee.
