Former Health Minister Fazel: In the next 10 years, we will have to either bring in doctors or send patients abroad for treatment.

Former Minister of Health, Fazel, stated that in the next 10 years we will have to either bring in more doctors or send patients abroad for treatment.

Iraj Fazel, the head of the Surgeons Society and former Minister of Health, warned about the current conditions facing the medical community today.

Iraj Fazel mentioned that the effects of the problems created for medical students, the shortage of doctors, and the vacancies in specialized fields will gradually lead to the serious risk of importing doctors and the need to send patients abroad. These issues will ultimately lead to the decline of the medical field in Iran. Today, the interest in studying medicine in the entrance exam or continuing education in medical specialties is facing a serious challenge, to the point that in recent exams, we didn’t even have a volunteer for vascular surgery, and similarly, some other specialized fields remain vacant. It is predicted that in the next 10 years, we will need to bring in specialists from abroad for these fields and again send patients abroad for specialized surgeries.

He continued that these problems have arisen while a lot of efforts have been made in the past decades to excel the country’s medical field. However, factors seeking to impoverish the country’s physicians have created a scenario of problems. With such conditions, I do not see a bright future at all, and we will return to the same position as before. Some ignorant people think they are serving the public with these scenarios, but the main goal of these individuals is more malicious than these words. The main goal has been to destroy the future of medicine in this country, and they should ask themselves what benefit they gain from this situation. In my opinion, these actions are a kind of betrayal to the country.
