More than a 50% increase in COVID-19 cases worldwide
The World Health Organization has reported a more than 50% increase in COVID-19 cases worldwide during a one-month period at the end of 2023 compared to the same time last year.
According to the organization’s report, which was published on Friday, December 1st, the number of new COVID-19 cases during a 28-day period from November 20th to December 17th has increased by 52%.
During this time period, the World Health Organization reports that the number of new COVID-19 cases was over 850,000, which is higher than last year, but the death rate was 8% lower, with over 3,000 deaths.
The World Health Organization has announced a resurgence of COVID-19 and its widespread transmission in recent weeks due to a new variant called B.1.862 Omicron, which is a subvariant of B.1.862 BA286.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States had previously stated that this new strain may also affect individuals who have previously had COVID-19 or have been vaccinated, due to additional mutations.
