Preventing the gathering of Ahvaz workers by security forces
Contract workers employed in the gas refineries of Pars Jonoubi had announced their intention to gather in front of the headquarters of Pars Jonoubi Gas Complex in Ahvaz on the first Monday of Esfand (the last month of the Iranian calendar), but according to the Free Workers Union, security and law enforcement forces prevented the workers from gathering by deploying in that location.
Furthermore, last night Alireza Mirghafari, a member of the Ahvaz Trade Union officials, was arrested by security authorities, and summonses have been issued for several others.
According to the Free Workers Union, the trade unions are completely under the control of security forces, government officials, and employers, and they have repeatedly opposed the workers’ efforts to hold protests. However, this time, when they joined other workers in their protest, they faced a security crackdown.
Contract workers employed in the gas refineries of Pars Jonoubi are demanding the full implementation of the job classification plan, the regularization of the situation of contracted drivers, and the implementation of a compensation plan for their services. They are also seeking the improvement of the welfare services in camps and dormitories, as well as the fulfillment of their other demands.
