Seven women were killed in different parts of Turkey in one day.

Seven women in various parts of Turkey were murdered by their current or former husbands in one day.

The Turkish news channel reported on Tuesday, February 28th that a total of seven women were brutally killed in Izmir, Bursa, Sakarya, Erzurum, Denizli, and Istanbul on that day. The media stated that the suspects were either their current husbands or ex-husbands.

According to the report, these women, aged between 32 and 49, were killed by gunshot or stab wounds. At least three of the perpetrators committed suicide, two were arrested, and one, who was injured during the arrest, died. The fate of the seventh person, who had escaped from prison to kill her husband, is unknown.

In 2023, a non-governmental organization called ‘We Will Stop Femicide’ will work to end the killing of women. They recorded 315 cases of femicide in Turkey during that year.

The aforementioned NGO has pointed out that in the past 15 years, the only year in Turkey where femicide decreased was in 2011 when the Istanbul Convention was ratified.
