Ukrainian drone attack caused damage to several oil refinery tanks in Russia

A drone attack in Ukraine caused damage to several oil refinery tanks in Russia.

Russian authorities announced on Friday, May 9, that in a drone attack by Ukraine on an oil refinery in the city of Salavat in the Republic of Bashkortostan, oil facilities including a pumping station were damaged.

The French news agency reported, citing a Ukrainian security official, that this drone attack was planned and carried out by the Ukrainian security service and was unprecedented due to the 1500-kilometer distance the drones traveled to reach the target. The unnamed security official added that two oil tanks in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia were also targeted in drone attacks.

Russia’s Emergency Department claimed in Telegram statements that the drone attack on the Salavat refinery did not result in fire or casualties. According to the Russian news agency Interfax, black smoke from this attack was visible over part of the refinery. Local authorities have claimed that this attack did not disrupt the refinery’s operations.
